Understand The Position 32: “When Women Are Alone.” (Tata Steel ’12)

When they asked Jane Austen, how is it possible that there is no men conversation without a participation of a woman in her books, she replied with sincerity: “The reason is simple. I cannot write such a conversation, because I actually don’t know how men talk when they are alone.”

Translated by: Dusan Turcer

Another writer – I don’t remember the name – adds: “If men knew what their wives do at home while they are at work, they would never get married.” He then continues with the description of American housewives who lie all the morning in the jogging suite and only one hour before the arrival of their husband they tidy up, put on a skirt and hair style. (Of course, this was meant as a joke, and I quote it the same way. Being a housewife would be probably impossible for every man.)

Men and women simply have some insurmountable barriers. Men will never fully enter the women’s world, and vice versa. And any information about the life of “other species” is valuable for men. For chess players in particular.

I have one such information for you. And it’s free of charge. You will see women playing chess, when they are alone. Look and hold your hats now. It’s quite a ride:

So we already know. Ladies behave peacefully in the presence of men, but when they are alone, they fight like wild animals, until the last blood.

It is a very nice view, though…
