GM Ipatov vs. ChessFriends.com Players

First Simultaneous Exhibition took place on ChessFriends.com, on Monday, 15/8/2011. Our guest was spanish grandmaster Alexander Ipatov, momentarily world’s eighth best player under 18 years.

Six players were given and have taken on the opportunity to play against the grandmaster. All of them have advanced from qualifiction tournament, held on Sunday. Despite technical problems (the second round was drawn few hours late), it was succesfully played.

Players, who understandably did not wait for the start of second round are invited to next tournament, in which they will be playing for their tickets to simul against another grandmaster.

One of the six simultaneous games ended by default, because the grandmaster did not play his first move in time limit. Ipatov started the other five games with atypical move – 1.b3. His opponents faced impressive player strength, but they did not succumb easily. However, grandmaster’s skill was apparent in every game and as a result, he won 5-0.

The last man standing was sletsco (1623), who lion-heartedly defended against the young Spaniard’s attacks and even progressed into balanced endgame. After a few mistaken moves, he resigned.

Another player, samouk11 proceeded into substantially stronger double rook endgame, but he accidentally lost his rook due to careless click. A propos, he would have lost the game regardless. Cheat detector signalized that samouk11 had been possibly using chess program. Nearing the end of the game, enough convincing evidence had been collected, based on which we have disqualified him from this event.

The simultaneous exhibition was watched in detail by other users of ChessFriends.com. The game of GM Ipatov vs. Deeplayer, our most watched game, was observed by 38 users at a single time.

Game results and notations:

We would like to express our gratitude to all players involved.

The simul have gained many spectators and positive feedback by attendees. We will continue organising similar exhibitions. We will inform you about all events by newsletter, news blog or in-game messages.
