A Compliment

There are many stories about the confidence of Efim Bogoljubov (on the picture). Once he was strolling around the tournament hall and stopped by the big demonstration board.

He studied the position for a while and then asked a nearby spectator: “What would you play here if you were white?”

The spectator was for a moment surprised by the question but then timidly suggested a move.

“Garbage!” said Bogoljubov. “You would be checkmated in a few moves after that!”

“What would you do?” the maestro asked another nearby chess fan. He promptly suggested another move.

Well well, bravo!” said Bogoljubov, and just when the spectator started to proudly look around, he added: “also garbage!”

A nice story. I’m a bit of a fan of Efim Davidovich. Apparently, he once remarked: “When I have White, I win because I have White. When I have Black, I win because I’m Bogoljubov.”.

Evidently he wasn’t a believer in false modesty.

what I tuoghht he could do on the example is he moves his queen two squares left and then attacks the bishop with his knight so then the queen will get the knight and then whites queen could get blacks queen (this is at 5:54)
