Women GP Qatar 2011

In the capital city of Qatar has begun the last women’s tournament of the Grand Prix 2009 – 2010 series. Twelve elite women chessplayers (9 GMs, 3 IMs, 1 WGM) have met there, including 3 ex-champions of the World (Xu Yuhua, Chiburdanidze and Stefanova). The top seeded is the Indian Koneru, Humpy (2607). The prize pool is € 40 000, the winner of the whole series proceeds to a World championship match against the title defender, Chinese Hou Yifan.

After three rounds is leading a point ahead with 3/3 so far excellently playing Danelian, Elina (ARM) ahead of Dzagnidze, Nana (GEO), who has in the first round defeated Koneru and the surprise – Fierro, Martha (ECU) with 2/3. There ist just one player besides Danelian left unbeaten yet – Cramling, Pia (SWE) having three draws. The playing mood is very fighting, only 4 out of 18 played games have been drawn yet.

In the third round in the game Stefanova (BUL) – Zhu Chen (CHN), black has won by winnig a piece after exploiting white’s back rank weakness:
