Biel Round 4: What happened to Nakamura?
In the fourth round in Biel, newcomer Bologan played his first game, Carlsen played after a pause. Nakamura is insecure about his performance. The standings have also changed substantially.
Those who expected Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen to confirm his top-ladder position might have been a bit surprised. His game against French Etienne Bacrot, has ended in a draw. The best player in the world has made a little mistake and paid with 2 valuable points. Although he still retains a one game advantage, he will certainly be missing the lost points at the end of the tournament.
The match between the two leading players was the day’s pinnacle. Chinese Hao defeated Netherland’s Giri after an inspiring match and took over the first place.
The last game between a newbie to the tournament, Moldovan Victor Bologan, and Hikaru Nakamura has surprisingly ended with the Japanese-American grandmaster’s victory. The course of the game, although quite chaotic, seemed to leanin favor of Bologan. Unfortunately, he blundered in the endgame and Nakamura won. He wasn’t pleased though. As he wrote on his twitter:
There are almost no words to describe how badly I played today…
This round also brought a draw between Carlsen and Bacrot.
